Board of Elections and Registration

The Board of Elections and Registration of Peach County is composed of five members who are appointed accordingly:

  • Board of Registrars registers voters Two members of the board shall be appointed by the governing authority of Peach County
  • One member of the board is selected by the county executive committee of the political party which received the highest number of votes within the county for its candidate for Governor in the general election immediately preceding the appointment of such member.
  • One member of the board shall be selected by the county executive committee of the political party which received the second highest number of votes within the county for its candidate for Governor in the general election immediately preceding the appointment of such member.
  • One member shall be selected by the chief judge of the Superior Court of Peach County.

Qualifying Fee Notice

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. §21-2-131 (a)(1), the following qualifying fees were set by the Peach County Commissioners in the Jan. 12, 2012 meeting:

Qualifying for the offices listed above will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 and will end at noon on Friday, May 25th, 2012. The General Primary will be held on Tuesday, July 31st, 2012 and the General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 6th, 2012.

Voter Qualifications (Candidate Qualifications)

To register to Vote in the State of Georgia, you must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A legal resident of Georgia
  • Be at least 17 1/2 years of age (at least 18 years of age to vote)
  • Not be serving a sentence for a conviction of felony involving moral turpitude
  • Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

You can register to vote at the Peach County Board of Elections and Registration located at the Peach County Courthouse. There are several convenient methods of signing up to vote, including registration by mail and "Motor Voter" registration.

"Motor Voter" registration is offered when you renew or apply for your driver's license.

Change of Residence

If you move to a new county, you must fill out another voter registration application. If you move within Peach County, you must fill out a change of address form with your new address 30 days prior to an election. This can be done by coming into the Peach County Board of Registrars Office or writing:

Absentee Ballots

You may request absentee ballots as early as 180 days before an election. Absentee ballots may also be requested for the following reasons:
  • Physical disability
  • Constant caregiver to someone who is physically disabled
  • Election Official, who will perform official duties in connection with the Election
  • Election Day falls on a religious holiday, which you observe
  • Required to be on duty in your place of employment for the protection of the health, life, or safety of the public during the entire time the polls are open
  • 75 years of age or older
  • Citizen of the United States permanently residing outside the United States and last domiciled in Georgia, not voting in any other state. Allowed to vote for Federal Offices (President, Vice President, US Senator or Representative in Congress)
  • Armed Forces or Merchant Marines of the United States, spouse or dependent of the member, residing outside the County.

or you may request an absentee ballot by submitting the following information, in writing, to the Voter Registration Office. Request must include:

  • Name of election, date of election (if primary, declare party preference)
  • Reason absentee ballot is being requested
  • Voter's name and address as registered
  • Voter's date of birth
  • Mailing address where ballot will be mailed
  • Voter's signature (may be signed by specified relative if voter is temporarily out of county or if voter is physically disabled)
  • No reason, by mail

After completing the request, please submit to the Peach County Board of Elections and Registrations in person, or by fax. If the absentee ballots are available, when appearing in person to request an absentee ballot you must vote within the confines of the Peach County Board of Elections and Registration Office.

Early Voting

21 days prior to any local, state or federal election, a registered voter may come into the Peach County Board of Elections and Registration Office and vote early without a reason. The office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Also, the 2nd Saturday prior to Election Day when there is a Federal or State candidate on the ballot from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requesting a List of Eligible Voters

To request a list of eligible voters in Peach County, the following information is needed:
  • Your name, address, and phone number
  • Type of list desired
  • Check or money order made payable to the Secretary of State prior to ordering list.

Identification Required To Vote At Precincts

Georgia Annotated Code, sections 21-2-417 and 21-3-328, requires identification at polls. The law states: "Each elector shall present proper identification to a poll worker at or prior to completion of a voter's certificate at any polling place and prior to such person's admission to the enclosed space at such polling place." Proper identification shall consist of any one of the following:

  • A Georgia driver's license, even if expired
  • A valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including one issued by the Department of Driver Services or your county registrar's office
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county municipality, board, authority, or other entity of this state
  • Valid U.S. military photo ID
  • Valid tribal photo ID

If you do not have one of these acceptable forms of ID, a Georgia Voter Identification Card is available FREE of charge in your county registrar's office or at any Department of Driver Services Office. You are not required to include any identification when voting absentee by mail.
